Getting to Pohnpei.
Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) sits just outside Kolonia, the island's main town. It's small, unhurried, and exactly what you'd expect from a place this far from everything.
By Air
United Airlines Island Hopper — the primary route. Flies between Honolulu and Guam with stops across Micronesia, including Pohnpei. Runs several times per week. Most visitors connect through Guam or Honolulu.
Nauru Airlines — operates a Brisbane–Pohnpei route via Nauru. A good option if you're coming from Australia or the South Pacific.
Common Routes
- → From the US West Coast: Fly to Honolulu or Guam, then connect to PNI via Island Hopper.
- → From Australia: Brisbane to Pohnpei via Nauru Airlines.
- → From Asia: Fly to Guam from Manila, Tokyo, Seoul, or Taipei, then connect to PNI.
Tips
- • Always reconfirm flight schedules — routes change seasonally and delays are part of island travel.
- • Build in a buffer day on either side of your trip. Connections through Guam or Honolulu don't always line up neatly.
- • Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
- • Notify your bank before you go. ATMs exist but aren't everywhere.
